Kookie On Branch Premium Lustre Photo Paper Poster

A beautiful Kookaburra sitting on a tree branch, taking in the surroundings. Native to the eucalyptus forests of eastern Australia, the Kookaburra is actually the largest Kingfisher in the world even though it's not associated with water. The voice of the Kookaburra is instantly recognisable and its loud laughter-like call, known as the “bushman’s clock”, is one of the most distinctive sounds of the Australian bush. The name Kookaburra itself comes from this call and is a loanword, "guuguubarra", from the aboriginal Wiradjuri language. The Kookaburra cackle signals its territory to other birds, and the resounding dawn and dusk chorus can be heard for miles.

The plumage, as distinctive as its loud call, makes the Kookaburra one of Australia's most recognisable bird species. This lovely image of a Kookaburra at home in the trees taken by John Emmett on the Sunshine Coast QLD, clearly shows the dark wings, off-white underside, dark brown eye-stripes, patterned tail, and long beak that make this bird so unique.
